What is Ad-Blue?
Over the past 20 years, European legislation has transformed our vehicles and the impact they have on the environment. In larger cars and vehicles, you may have come across the use of Ad-Blue but what is it?
AdBlue® is a trademarked brand name for DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) – a solution used within the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system in modern diesel engines. It is a highly purified mixture of water and urea (synthetic urea not the ‘real’ thing!).
AdBlue® passes through the SCR system during operation and converts potentially harmful NOx emissions in exhaust gasses into a mixture of water vapour and nitrogen.
Vehicles have a separate tank for this and a dashboard warning light that will tell you the levels of Ad-Blue and when you ned to top it up.
It is very important that the Ad-Blue you use isn’t contaminated and you keep your tank topped up. The more you use your vehicle, the more you will need to refill, so consider installing one of our fantastic new tanks on site. It takes the hassle out of refilling and your Ad-Blue is on tap when you need it!
𝗔𝗱-𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀…
With the launch of our new Ad-Blue tanks page we thought we would share our top tips for using this product. The SCR system that processes the Ad-Blue in your engine are usually closed units. This means that any deposits or contamination can result in a complete system failure and will require a full replacement. It is therefore crucial that AdBlue® is kept free from possible contaminates.
➡Always fill your AdBlue® tanks straight from the container in which your AdBlue® was supplied.
👍Never put any other fluid into an AdBlue® tank.
➡Only use an AdBlue®-specific dispenser or pump to dispense AdBlue®.
👍Do not dilute the product.
➡Only buy authorised AdBlue® solution.
